BOSTON PRELIMINARY MAYORAL PRIMARY
The Boston preliminary mayoral primary was held on September 14, 2021. The primary was to choose the top two candidates to advance to the general elections in November. The opening for the mayor happened after Mayor Walsh became the Labor secretary in the Biden Administration. City Councilor Kim Janey was appointed as the acting mayor and chose to run for a full term. Before Walsh left for Washington, Councilor Michelle Wu had declared challenge to the mayor. early polls showed Walsh beating Wu but after he left, polls showed Wu as the favorite. She led all the polls ahead of the acting mayor. Wu came in first place ahead of Annissa-George who shocked many when she came 2nd ahead of Janey. Michelle Wu dominated the electorate, she won 196 precincts out of 254 and enjoyed support across the city. Wu only weakness was in the black heavy precincts which was won by Janey followed by Campbell both of who are black. Annissa-George did better in the white heavy precincts. Michelle Wu is the favorite for the November general elections due her wide appeal and should do well in the black neighborhoods against Annissa-George. Below is the map showing the precincts winners and the vote margins.
